Herbert

Herbert claims to be a witchfinder attacked by a demon, but is actually a demon himself. Not much of one; he's extremely weak, and his only noteworthy ability is changing his body into a perfect human simulacrum. He takes great pride in this ability, though, and believes it has managed to "fool" the Holy Birch. He found he couldn't use any of his demon powers while under the Birch's influence, but hasn't thought very hard about this fact so far.

Birthday: Whichever number fancies him at that day
Age: Very, very old.
Past: Demons on Earth pay tribute to hell by sending as many human souls as they can. Herbert decided to have fun collecting his tribute by controlling women and then taking their virginity - because women can't lose their virginity before they marry, right? Well, it turns out that not a single person has made it to hell so far under his name, and now Herbert owes the Devil several thousand years in tribute. He's not being given a second chance either; Herbert's superior has ordered his execution, which means Bert has to die in the human world to go to Hell, where they'll procceed to kill him again... effectively negating his existence.

Nancy

The unlucky soul who found Herbert half-smashed on the ground one day. She's scrawny, short, aggravatingly ditzy, and no one has the patience to deal with her slow brain. She can be surprisingly perceptive, though, and tends to notice little details that go over most people's heads. Unfortunately, most of what she says is handwaved as drivel, which means nobody pays attention even when she has something important to say. The results may or may not be humorous.

Being female and an only child, she'll have to be married off to some guy so she can inherit the Inn. She hasn't dealt with this fact so far, though; her slow brain hasn't made the necessary associations yet.

Age: 15
Past: She's an only daughter, and has always wished to have little siblings; she also dreams of being a mother herself someday. As a kid, she'd be bullied and laughed at because of her slow wit, so unlike that of her parents; still, she always remained optimistic and never took the hazing to heart, to the frustration of her peers.
Status: Chestless

Catharina

Nancy's mother, who pilots the Inn's kitchen and serves the food. She's a practical woman, and likes to work; in many ways, she's similar to her sarcastic, no-nonsense husband. She's a good mother, but doesn't really take her slow-witted daughter seriously.

Birthday: February 28
Age: 34
Past: A few years after Nancy's birth, she had another child; the birth had many complications, though - the child ended up dying and Cath, unable to have more children.
Status: Busy

Odessa

Nancy's father and Catharina's husband, he's a short, grizzly, cynical and no-nonsense old man who imposes respect just by the thickness of his arms. He doesn't take whining and bullshit very well; deep down inside, though, he's a nice guy, and a fond father. The owner of the Inn by marriage, he apparently takes care of finances and bouncing, but has other hobbies most people don't know about.

Birthday: October 13
Age: 48
Past: He used to be a metalsmith before marrying and inheriting the Inn. He and Cath have been married for about 17 years; despite their age difference, the two get along remarkably well, and have quite similar temperaments. The height difference isn't a problem to him either.

Minor characters

Terry and Jerry

Good childhood friends; Terry was the only child who would befriend the lumbering, greasy, creepy Jerry. As a result, Jerry developped more than friendly feelings towards Terry.

Terry is a journeying doctor; Jerry works on the fields.

Demons

Herbert's ex-co-workers. They've all been given the go ahead to killerize him on sight, and are having fun with the hunt.

Theo

Nancy's cousin and husband-to-be, who'll inherit the inn as the last male in both families. He's loud, violent, jealous and overprotective of Nancy to the point of obsession. He's protected Nancy since childhood, and thus believes he's owed extra consideration for it.
